Evaluating the GAME Plan:

I have gone from the new sixth grade teacher that nobody really knows to the tech guru that everybody runs to with their questions. It only took about two weeks. I am not in a place where I am changing the way that technology is used to instruct or reinforce student learning yet, but I am in a better position to be a leader on the campus in that area.

Two teachers that had missed our meeting the other day approached me and asked if I would be around to help them with their surveys. They came after school yesterday and we got everything finished up and submitted. Lots of “thank-you” and “I couldn’t have done it without you” type of comments. I don’t think that I really helped much, and they could have done it on their own, but it was a little easier and they had the comfort of having someone right there to answer any questions they might have.

I am still working on the activity exploring real-world problems using digital tools and resources. Time is still an issue. Too many things keep coming up. That list of things seems to get longer each day, and it is a chore to prioritize the things that must be done first. Maybe everything will settle down in June.

  1. Doug,

You are making great progress. Your goal is actually happening... when they are coming to you for guidance you are taking on more leadership. Good for you!

I know what you mean about prioritizing and having time to do stuff. I am making a commitment to myself that this summer I will cross things off my to do list. I will have more "brain availability" at that point. We all will have completed our degree program, school will be on break, not so many obligations with my own kids, no blogs or applications due, no papers to grade... it will be time to develop!

You sound like you are right on track!

  2. Doug,

I love that you have gone from a newcomer on your faculy to a tech guru. I commend you for sharing your knowledge with others.

Real-world applications was an idea I included in my goal also. As the school year progresses, the ideas are not coming together as quickly as I had hoped. With all the things that we have to do during the school year, time seems so limited. Summer does seems like the best time to focus on, research and create activities for our students.

Keep up the good work! :)

  3. Doug,
You are living a real-world example! When doing what you do, influences other teachers to take a step forth in integrating technology you are not only affecting your own students, but you are affecting students around your entire school. Good for you!

  4. I really should feel a little better than I do about the progress that I have made thus far. The affirming comments help some, but I still am not sure that I want to extend myself too far. There was some talk of setting clear goals and limits regarding the problem based learning units, and I feel as though some of that is warranted here as well. I'm having a hard time finding balance in so many areas of life right now that adding something that also requires thoughtful attention to maintain a healthy level of activity seems like it could be a disaster waiting to happen.
