Carrying out the GAME Plan

I looked over the GAME Plan post from last week, and it looked a little thin on actionable items. I did volunteer for the leadership spot that was vacant and they said that would be great... they will let me know when the next meeting is scheduled.

My room is scheduled to host the Medical Billing Surveys next Tuesday the 26th. The minimum day collaboration that was scheduled for today was cancelled due to weather. The principal called and asked if I would make my room available so that people could start early, but nobody showed up.

I haven't had any time to start work on an activity for exploring a real-world situation using digital tools and resources.

  1. Douglas,

Sounds like you have faced some obstacles with your GAME plan. Weather cancellations and having no one show up can be discouraging. However, you will get your shot to share with your colleagues. Also I can certainly understand how hard it is to find time when beginning new activities. It seems as if developing new activities can be time-consuming but once they are finished the outcome is usually worth it. Hang in there!

  2. Doug,
I think it is great that you volunteered for the leadership position within your school. That alone tells me that you are very motivated to meet your goals. It can be very frustrating to put so much work or interest into something and then not have the support from the school or community. I am sorry to hear about that. I can understand how time can be a factor in your GAME plan as well. As teachers, there are so many things on our plates that we have to sometimes set our goals aside to focus on the goals and needs of others. I am sure in time, you will be able to begin looking at your goals and incorporating real-life situations into your teaching using technology. Good luck!

  3. It's funny how you can feel that you are "doing too much" and "accomplishing very little" at the same time. It seems in education that we are always being asked to do more things, while rarely having our responsibilities reduced. I was reminded of something by the comment to hang in there. For years when someone would ask how I was doing, I would respond with, "I,m hanging in there." I felt like I was overusing it and thought that I would change it up a bit. When I was asked how I was doing I responded, "My arms are tired." I got a lot of funny looks because people didn't know what I was talking about, so I had to explain. "I'm past hanging in there... my arms are tired." In reflection, I need to look for some ways to rest and renew that work during the school year. It just seems that there is no real break from it all. There is always something left unfinished; hanging over my head. It's hard when you feel that you can work 24/7 and still not do everything that would be good to do.
